Alpha quadra types are characterized by immediate positive affectivity and they value inclusiveness and universal participation. Valuing , they are oriented towards quickly changing emotional displays of those around them. Valuing , they are also oriented towards their immediate sensory and bodily experiences, and possess a "short-term" focus that prioritizes the value of their experiences now, with less regard for any long-term impactful ambition. Beta quadra types who also value are oriented towards exterior emotional signals are, like alphas, something of internal "optimists," but may not always look the part as they care about the "long-term" impact of their influence on the exterior emotional space; alphas prefer to see their exterior emotional space be brightened now. If we understand beta types as both "light" and "dark," but at their essence primarily dark, we can understand alpha types as emphatically not "dark;" indeed they tend to be rather fearful of darkness. Being oriented towards the emotional environment rather than an interior emotional space, alphas are almost just as affected by the "darkness" in others around them as in themselves -- negativity in others feels toxic, and as such they may take it upon themselves to meet the needs of others and ensure that others are not disappointed in order to keep the atmosphere upbeat and pleasant. Because of their orientation towards the emotional states of others, they can have problems saying no or standing up for themselves.
Alphas value , which leads them to search for consistency and clarity in their worldviews, and to focus on the structural principles underlying situations rather than more individual assessments of character. However, they are far more tolerant in this search for consistency than betas; if betas make discriminations about people or things based on their ideologies, alphas values leads them to recognize a multiplicity of possible ideologies with varying potentials and weaknesses. Alphas' orientation is directed towards relatively unconstrained possibility. They are less concerned with the application of ideas or ideologies so much as the process of generating ideas itself. Combined with their emotionally "light" orientation, their attention to possibility generally gives alphas an upbeat, nondiscriminatory attitude.
