LII description

Dominant introverted logic

LIIs are predominantly oriented towards impersonal logical structure. They are most attentive to the structural organization, rules, laws and categories describing the world around them. While it is true that knowledge about structure and logic is particularly crucial in domains such as mathematics, physics, programming, and other things, it is purely stereotype to assume that these domains attract the attention of LIIs (although of course there are many LIIs that succeed in them). Indeed an even better, more historically "responsible" stereotype to describe LIIs ("Robespierre") is in law and legal philosophy, abstract structures applied to the social world.

The most important characteristic of LIIs' emphasis on introverted logic is not therefore "nerdiness" but rather impersonality in orientation. However, this impersonality is not generally a surface characteristic. Internally, LIIs are stable, somewhat unemotional and acutely aware of the *principles* governing their interactions and interests. But on the surface, LIIs usually portray a warm, jovial, accepting quality -- although on occasion their natural stoicism may come through instead. The impersonality of LIIs is quite unlike the bluntness of ILIs; whereas ILIs are motivated by clarity of communication and are not very sensitive to the immediate emotional responses of others, LIIs are often quite sensitive to the immediate reactions of others and appear soft, taciturn, unassuming, and "go-with-the-flow."

Unlike some other Ti-valuing introverted types, LIIs' organization and impersonality primarily exists in the mental realm. That is to say, LIIs are "mentally" organized, and focused on the abstract or potential structure of the world around them (what "could be"), rather than the actual structure.

Likewise, LIIs orientation to structure is usually accompanying an effort to simplify, and clarify, abstract concepts. They have a tendency in exposition to address concepts approachably and sometimes simplistically and with candid effort to use simple terminology and to explain any jargon. LIIs' tendency to simplify the complicated is rather starkly in contrast to beta introverts' tendency to build an an ivory tower of impressive structure, almost as if showing off their own intellectual prowess and challenging the listener to conquer the complexity of the ideas, which LIIs are very unlikely to naturally do.

LIIs' mental acuity doesn't necessarily translate into physical organization, or organization in other areas of their lives. However it often does; LIIs can often come across as "stable": organized, well-settled, and attentive people in their activities, their career prospects, and their working lives. This characteristic stability comes at the expense of drive and direction. Indeed, sometimes if they fall out of balance their lack of drive and diffidence to take action can be more outwardly obvious than their conscientiousness, causing LIIs to appear instead disorganized and to be moving through life without much purpose or effort, which at a deeper level may be true.

Creative extroverted intuition

Like EIIs, LIIs see the world around them for its potential rather than its actual realization. Unlike in EIIs, this potential is most directed towards the arena of impersonal systems and structures, rather than the arena of people and their character. The disconnect between potential and practice is expressed most clearly in LIIs' characteristic tendency to build systems and understanding, rather than using these systems for some application.

LIIs' orientation to potential makes them very open-minded people. This openness can also sometimes be manifest as anxiety, lack of self-confidence, and lack of commitment in life. However, as LIIs are oriented towards structure there can sometimes be an awkward tension in this type between confidence and noncommitment, between dogma and openness. While the fundamentally open-minded, curious, imaginative and sometimes doubtful side is probably more characteristic overall, it tends to be sprinkled with doses of clarity and convinction, which can be domain-specific or which sometimes seem awkwardly out of character.

Like ILEs, LIIs have a tendency to be hypothesis builders when searching through new interests, attempting to draw parallels between existing knowledge and concepts. As with other Ti ego types, the attempt to draw parallels between existing known concepts, can result in the logical chunking of these concepts into more simplified, palatable forms for the purpose of comparison.

LIIs have a tendency to approach the world around them unskeptically. While they often see themselves as discriminating, skeptical thinkers if questioned, in practice this is not very true; they can often be found entertaining dubious ideas and unlikely hypotheses that other, generally more skeptical types such as the ILI, LIE, ESI or LSI might dismiss out of hand without really considering. It is not altogether atypical for LIIs to become absorbed in magical, spiritual, or unrealistic thinking, although it is not as likely as in other types such as the IEI or EIE.

Role introverted ethics

LIIs have a natural instinct of being polite and formal in their interactions. The formalistic approach usually doesn't last too long, a lot of LIIs make themselves appear varyingly cheerful and nonthreatening, especially as they grow, but beyond a narrow facade of cheerfulness they tend to be unavailable and disinclined to partake in serious emotionality easily.

One feature I've seen sometimes in LIIs is a dislike for others airing out their emotions. While overall tolerant in their reactions and unlikely to react harshly, they may find other people who discuss their emotions too easily to be tiresome or perhaps uncouth or overbearing. They tend to want to usually keep their own emotions somewhat under wraps and talk about them only more sparingly.

They may have some difficulties in reading other people, or understanding why others tend to do what they do.

Vulnerable extroverted sensation

Like other Ne types, LIIs have a noncommittal disconnect between perception and action. Unlike Ne dominants who go through life with a certain emboldened experimentalistic chutzpah in spite of this disconnection, LIIs' disconnectedness leaves them substantially disconnected from taking much action. They can appear meek, shy, indecisive, and, reticent to take advantage of social opportunities, especially if they are lacking in social support. Even to the extent that they can show a limited degree of social connectedness, they often have a certain degree of disconnectedness on a deeper level, with minimal meaningful connections to others and sometimes also, little understanding or direction of what they hope to accomplish in their lives.

LIIs tend to be at least moderately conflict averse and passive in their interactions with others, preferring to step softly and avoid what bad feeling they can. Similarly to delta NF types, they trend towards assuming the good intentions of others, at least on initial approach, although they are distinctively less likely to think about whether they have correctly interpreted their character, and like other alpha types, also less likely than delta NFs to judge others harshly (and if they do judge people harshly, it most often is for pretty externally observed features on the exterior, like rudeness and callousness, although judgment for unpalatable ideologies or views is also possible). They are likely to be avoidant people overall, traversing through life without trying to make many waves.

Suggestive extroverted ethics

Extroverted ethics, as the suggestive function, is a weak spot and major point of growth through individuals' lives. In LIIs, this point of growth pertains to their attention to the people in their lives and how effectively they present themselves to others. Additionally, they have a weakness in their emotional dynamism and their energy levels in responsiveness to moments around them, over the course of their lives they may grow to be more naturally excitable and to have fun and enjoy themselves more easily.

Most LIIs usually come across on the surface as placid, pleasant, and accommodating people, but also mysteriously distant, and often not choosing to partake in social opportunities. They can in some situations come across as conscientious and sober and lacking excitability, more typically if they are younger and not as socially developed, but it can also be a sign of growth that they intentionally present themselves to others as goal-driven and principled. Indeed, presenting oneself as an industrious or engaging person can directly change oneself to be more proactive and present than one would have been without the social context.

The way they present themselves to others ranges anywhere between, haphazardly and unfilteredly paying little attention to the way other people receive them, to well collected, thoughtful, and graceful. They can be drawn to freely expressing themselves, sometimes employing humor that is a bit callous or insensitive, although antagonizing or being insensitive to others is rarely their intention.

Mobilizing introverted sensation

LIIs as Si valuing introverts are often pretty sensitive to the quality of many of the physical experiences surrounding them.

The most obvious manifestation of this, although perhaps not in all representatives of the type, is that LIIs tend to have a penchant for design, whether in user interfaces, or architecture, or scientific diagrams, or flower arrangements, or whatever. User interface design, or computer or device layout, seems like a particularly common field to find LIIs working on, although of course not all LIIs will be user interface designers or programmers of any kind. They certainly often care how things look and how easy things are to figure out how to use and understand.

LIIs have a range of different preferences for their physical environment and surroundings, and often have certain degree of engagement in their food, decorations, surrounding land and scenery; sometimes a great deal of engagement.

Ignoring extroverted logic

LIIs are, for the most part, not critical types and not very constrained by, or motivated to seek out factual evidence. They tend to be have a more receptive attitude towards a wide range of ideas, and can become lost in the abstract languages of these ideas totally disconnected from their meaning or application in practice.

LIIs often tend towards being resource conscious and don't tend to live expansively or spend money profligately. However, they are normally not as fixated on managing resources and money as Te types.

Demonstrative introverted intuition

LIIs are usually more drawn to new and interesting possibilities than to focusing on the same limited ideas, although they can have considerable power of focused attention.

They may be rejecting of certain ideas and unpalatable ideologies in specific situations, but their natural approach is not to dismiss ideas and any skepticism they display is less consistent than it is in other Se valuing types.
